Kentwood Office Furniture kick starts a promising new corporate partnership with Designs 4 Dignity
Kentwood Office is now a Bronze-level corporate sponsor of the nonprofit, Designs 4 Dignity, which provides a combination of pro bono design services, construction talent, and donated materials to other nonprofit organizations.
CHICAGO – Kentwood Office Furniture is proud to take on projects and partnerships that allow the company to serve its surrounding community in a positive way. Just recently, Kentwood Office kick-started a promising new corporate partnership with the Chicago-based nonprofit, Designs 4 Dignity.
Designs for Dignity combines the power of pro bono design, construction talent, and donated materials to help existing nonprofit organizations renovate their spaces. The organization collaborates with interior designers, architects, and other industry professionals to design human-centric spaces that meet the unique needs of each of its service grant recipients. Manufacturers, vendors, craftsmen, clients, and showrooms provide furnishings and materials that are reused in the spaces.
Most recently, the Kentwood Office Chicago team donated time and materials to Design 4 Dignity’s latest project, Harbour House, an emergency shelter in Des Plaines, Ill. that provides temporary lodging and support services for young women and transgender youth experiencing homelessness. Harbour House is operated by The Harbour, a nonprofit located in Park Ridge, Ill.
The 3,500 square-foot building houses up to 10 residents and features common spaces, including a kitchen and dining area, great room, main office, intake and therapy room, study area, laundry room, storage and utility space, and shared bathroom facilities. Kentwood Office provided custom furnishings for some of the spaces in the shelter, as well as some project management donations and design services.
“It’s a marriage of communal effort, design work, and furniture manufacturing,” explained Todd Stortz, Regional General Manager. “[Kentwood Office] recognizes what’s really special about what Designs 4 Dignity does and the unique dynamic created between the nonprofit and industry professionals. It’s something that my team was excited to take part in.”
At the completion of the $1.34-million project, Kentwood Office was named a Bronze-level corporate partner of Designs 4 Dignity. The company was among the many corporate partners who stepped in when the COVID-19 pandemic delayed fundraising efforts.
“We’re excited about this new partnership, the impact this work has on our community, and what comes next,” Stortz continued.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Harbour House was held on Friday, April 29, 2022. Corporate sponsors, media, and members of the community were given a tour of the new space.
